Preventative Care for Kittens

Your Kitten’s First Visit

We’re here to make your kitten’s first veterinary visit stress-free and informative. When you arrive, our friendly team will walk you through every step and answer any questions you may have. To help us provide the best care, please bring:

  • Your kitten in a secure pet carrier
  • Any previous medical records (vaccinations, deworming, etc.)
  • A fecal sample that is less than 24 hours old

What to Expect During the Exam

During your kitten’s first exam, we’ll complete a full physical assessment and introduce you to essential wellness care. You’ll also receive a helpful educational kit and access to videos with guidance on topics like behavior, nutrition, and parasite prevention. Our veterinary team will also discuss:

  • Flea, tick, and heartworm prevention strategies
  • Intestinal parasite control and deworming recommendations
  • Fecal analysis for internal parasites
  • Vaccine scheduling
  • Testing for FeLV/FIV and Bartonella (the cause of cat scratch disease in humans)

Kitten Vaccination Schedule

Timely vaccination is key to preventing serious illnesses in cats. We follow a carefully timed schedule based on your kitten’s age and health:
  • FVRCP Vaccine – Protects against feline viral rhinotracheitis, calicivirus, and panleukopenia.
    • Given every 3–4 weeks until 12 weeks of age
    • Cats over 12 weeks of age with unknown history will receive two doses 3–4 weeks apart
  • Rabies Vaccine – First dose administered at 12 weeks or older
  • FeLV (Feline Leukemia Virus) Vaccine – Recommended based on your kitten’s lifestyle and risk
