Meet Our Team


Hospital Manager

Christine joined Oaklawn Animal Hospital in 2015. A Rhode Island resident since 1992, she attended the University of Rhode Island. Prior to joining the Oaklawn team, Christine worked in the Hospitality Industry for 25 years with a focus on Hotel Management. She shares her life with her two children, a Beagle named Dusty and Chihuahua sisters, Daisy and Dakota.


Lead Client Care Representative, Fear Free Certified

Michele is a Fear Free Certified Lead Receptionist with over 20 years of experience in the veterinary field. She has spent thirteen years as a veterinary technician and six years as a receptionist. She has been at Oaklawn Animal since 2006. Her interests include shopping and her favorite breed of dog is the Akita. At home she is welcomed by a Shiba Inu named Meko and two Akitas, Yuki & Aiko and a New Foundland, Kai.


Client Care Representative

Amber has been a part of the Oaklawn Animal team as a receptionist since June 2016. She enjoys working in the animal field and has always wanted to do this kind of work since a child. She has 5 cats: Zedd, Wooleybear, Whiskey, Cali and Ro whom she has all rescued. She loves spending time going hiking and taking pictures of the great outdoors.


Receptionist, Fear Free and TickSmart Certified

Candace joined the team at Oaklawn Animal Hospital in May 2016. She has over a decade of customer service experience and has been hands on working with animals since 2010 in a variety of environments. Candace is TickSmart Certified through the University of Rhode Island. When she isn’t busy rescuing cats, she enjoys spending time with her boyfriend and being outside in nature. Her home is shared with her cats Sharky and Iggy and her senior Pitbull Tia; who just happens to be her favorite breed of dog.


Client Care Representative

Donna is a Receptionist here at Oaklawn Animal Hospital since 1986. She has been graciously helping our customers and our staff with her ready laughter and easy manner. She enjoys reading eighteenth and nineteenth century literature, cooking and traveling. She and her husband have two children and one grandchild and enjoy the company of their 3 cats.


Client Care Representative, TickSmart Certified

Megan joined our Oaklawn Animal Hospital team in November 2017.  She graduated from Rhode Island College in 2007, earning a Bachelors Degree in Communications. She has over 10 years of customer service experience and is TickSmart Certified through the University of Rhode Island. She began working with animals when taking a part time job in 2009 at Providence Animal Rescue League, and now could not imagine a day that doesn’t include dogs and cats.  Megan loves meeting clients and their pets. In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her family, Netflix binges, and Sunday drives for ice cream. Megan and her husband share there home with two rescued pets — a cat named Dexter, and a dog named Sully.


Client Care Representative

Samantha joined our reception team in March of 2013. She has become the sunshine of the front desk with her welcoming smile every day! Sam has a dog named Cody and a cat named Misty. Her interests outside of Oaklawn include shopping, cooking and reading. Samantha is currently going to school to become a paramedic.


Client Care Representative, Fear Free Certified, TickSmart Certified

Sonja has been working here at Oaklawn since. Your might recognize her when you walk in as she been an integral part of our staff. She loves ferrets and shares her with three ferrets and one dog. If you have a difficult problem, Sonja is the person you to! Sonja is also our very own Queen of Green, implementing our recycling and composting program, and she has been driving a hybrid car since 2002.


Client Care Representative, Fear Free Certified

Katie is our newest receptionist at Oaklawn Animal Hospital. She graduated from the University of Rhode Island in 2015 but about bachelor’s degree in animal science and technology. She also has 10 years of experience in customer service. In the future, she hopes to further her education and run a veterinary practice of her own. Outside of work Katie’s interests include baking doing home improvement projects and watching football with her family and friends. She shares her home with her boyfriend Andy and their four year old cat Hanna


Lead Technician, CVT, Fear Free Certified

Maria is our Lead Technician and is Fear Free Certified, and has been with us since 1996. She received her B.S. in Animal Science from URI in 1999, and became a Certified Veterinary Technician in 2006. She is married and has two daughters. She shares her home with 2 cats and 2 dogs. Her interests include spending time with her family, hiking, and cycling. She is also proficient at various handicrafts like knitting and sewing.



Amy has worked at Oaklawn Animal Hospital since 2008. She has attended the University of Massachusetts in Lowell, pursuing a degree in Psychology. She has previous veterinary experience in Massachusetts and at a local emergency hospital as a surgical technician. She has a beautiful daughter and 2 tuxedo cats. Her interests include spending time on the beach, gardening cooking and time with family.


Technician, PennHip Certified

Ashley has been a technician at Oaklawn Animal Hospital since 2006. She began her career as a technician in 2003 and has never looked back. Ashley shares her home in Cranston with three dogs Mexi, Mila and Mango and a cat Bing. Her hobbies include going out with her friends, shopping and spending time with her family.


Technician, Fear Free Certified

Courtney, a Fear Free Certified technician, started with Oaklawn Animal Hospital in early 2013 as an assistant. In January 2016 she was promoted to Technician. Courtney works closely with Dr. Mahaney to provide canine rehabilitation treatment and services. With her positive attitude and work ethic we are pleased to have her on our team. She is drawn to misunderstood animals and highly believes in behavioral training. She lives with her rescued dog, Leroy and cat Frostbite.



Hablo Espanol
Daniel has been a veterinary technician for over 15 years. He started his career during high school where he found great enjoyment in helping pets in need of veterinary care. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his children: Alizié, Daylin and Alexis. He also enjoys playing soccer with his 5 year old French Bulldog, Bronxx.


Technician, Fear Free Certified

Fran is a Certified Veterinary Technician who has been at OAH since 2006. Her calm demeanor and ability to quiet even the most upset cats has earned her the nickname of “Cat Whisperer”. She has worked as a technician for many years before joining our OAH family, and has an associates degree in Veterinary Technology from Newbury Junior College. She and her husband Tom share their home with many animals. Fran also spends time writing and is interested in photography.


Technician, CVT and Fear Free Certified

Crystal is a Certified Veterinary Technician who has been with the OAH family since 1998. She is also Fear Free Certified. She is married and has a son named Dylan. Crystal has Luna, a Cattle Dog, Sprocket, a labradoodle and two retired racehorses, Tabitha and Magnum to care for at home. Her interests include gardening and going on walks with her family and dogs. She also enjoys riding her horses. She received her technician certification in 2006.



Kristina has been part of our team since 2004. She started here as an intern while she was in the ninth grade at the Metropolitan Regional Career and Technical Center in Providence, RI. The internship turned into a part-time summer job then a full time career as an Assistant. In 2008 she graduated from a CNA class at Berkshire Place in Providence, but realized that animals are her true passion. In 2014 she was promoted to Technician who has proved her eagerness to keep learning. Kristina has a black and white cat named Hydrox and a tiger cat named Wink. They both share there home with two dogs: Buddy and Pixie.


Technician, CVT and Fear Free Certified

Shannon is one of our newest additions to Oaklawn Animal Hospital as a technician. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Animal Psychology, and is a certified veterinary technician from NEIT and is also Fear Free Certified. She currently lives with her dog, Willow and her cat Atlas. Shannon loves to hike, yoga, going to trivia and bingo with friends and loves to make people laugh.


Assistant, Fear Free Certified

Christina is a wonderful Fear Free Certified assistant that has been with Oaklawn Animal Hospital since March 2015. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from URI in 2012 and hopes to become a technician in the future. Throughout her time at URI Christina volunteered at Mystic Aquarium and interned at Roger Williams Zoo, she hopes to with exotic animals in the future. Christina shares her home with her 2 cats Elsa and her newest edition Frankie and her rabbit Sansa.


Assistant, Fear Free Certified

Karla, who in April 2016 became our newest certified veterinary tech assistant. She dreams of one day becoming a veterinary technician. She has a very friendly manner loves to make people smile and laugh. She has one dog named Bianca who is 12 years old. She loves spending time with family and friends. Her hobbies include dancing and eating!



Kayla is an assistant with Oaklawn Animal Hospital since December 2015. She loves working with animals and a very quiet manner which the animals are drawn to. She enjoys spending time with her son Avery, cooking and reading. Kayla has 2 Bearded Dragons, Gallagher and Gemma.



Sarah recently joined our team here at Oaklawn Animal Hospital. She graduated UMass Amherst in 2016 with bachelors in Bio and Marine Sciences. Sarah enjoys working with and caring for exotic and small animals. She has a yellow-bellied slider, Kenny and two rescue kittens, Ollie and Bailey at home. Sarah also has plans in the fall to attend a Veterinarian Technician school for certification.



Jordan joined our team in September 2017 after being certified as a veterinary assistant. She spends her free time playing with her rescue lab mix Halani, and her two cats, Lily and Jack. She hopes to become a technician sometime in the future.
