Meet Our Team

Christine

Hospital Manager

Christine joined Oaklawn Animal Hospital in 2015. A Rhode Island resident since 1992, she attended the University of Rhode Island. Prior to joining the Oaklawn team, Christine worked in the Hospitality Industry for 25 years with a focus on Hotel Management. She shares her life with her two children, a Beagle named Dusty and Chihuahua sisters, Daisy and Dakota.

Lead Client Care Representative, Fear Free Certified

Michele is a Fear Free Certified Lead Receptionist with over 20 years of experience in the veterinary field. She has been at Oaklawn Animal Hospital since 2006. Michele is also trained as a Veterinary Technician. Her interests include shopping and (remove) Her favorite breed of dog is the Akita. At home she is welcomed by a Shiba Inu named Meko and three Akitas- Aiko, Kenji and Yumi.

Candace - Oaklawn Animal Hospital

Client Care Representative, Fear Free and TickSmart Certified

Candace joined the team at Oaklawn Animal Hospital in May 2016. She has almost 2 decades of customer service experience and has been hands on working with animals since 2010 in a variety of environments. Candace is TickSmart Certified through the University of Rhode Island. When she isn’t busy doing TNR and rescuing cats, she enjoys spending time with her fiancee hiking and enjoying nature. Her home is shared with her 4 cats, 2 bully mix dogs and assorted small critters.

Samantha

Client Care Representative

Samantha joined our reception team in March of 2013. She is the sunshine of the front desk with her welcoming smile every day! Sam shares her home with her two adopted cats, Gracie and Luna. Her interests outside of Oaklawn include watching Netflix, baking and reading. Currently, Samantha is going to school for Occupational Therapy.

Sonja

Client Care Representative, Fear Free Certified, TickSmart Certified

Sonja has been working here at Oaklawn since 1984. You might recognize her when you walk in as she has been an integral part of our staff. She loves ferrets and shares her home with two ferrets and one dog. If you have a difficult problem, Sonja is the person you go to! Sonja is also our very own Queen of Green, implementing our recycling and composting program.

Amanda joined the Oaklawn team in October of 2020, when she moved back from Texas. She is currently enrolled in Penn Foster’s online Veterinary Technician program, and in her spare time enjoys being home to spend it with her pets.

Alexis

Client Care Representative

Alexis has been with Oaklawn Animal Hospital since November of 2020. She received her B.S. in Animal Science from the University of Rhode Island in 2018. Her interests include spending time with her family, traveling, shopping, and enjoying all outdoor activities with her two German Shepherd Dogs Zyra and Xena.

Maria

Lead Technician, Certified Veterinary Technician, Fear Free Certified

Maria is our Lead Technician and is Fear Free Certified, and has been with us since 1996. She received her B.S. in Animal Science from URI in 1999, and became a Certified Veterinary Technician in 2006. She is married and has two daughters. She shares her home with 2 cats and 2 dogs. Her interests include spending time with her family, hiking, and cycling. She is also proficient at various handicrafts like knitting and sewing.

Technician, Certified Veterinary Technician and Fear Free Certified

Crystal is a Certified Veterinary Technician who has been with the OAH family since 1998. She is also Fear Free Certified. She is married and has a son named Dylan. Crystal has Luna, a Cattle Dog, Sprocket, a labradoodle and two retired racehorses, Tabitha and Magnum to care for at home. Her interests include gardening and going on walks with her family and dogs. She also enjoys riding her horses. She received her technician certification in 2006.

Certified Veterinary Technician

Sarah B joined our team in March 2019 after graduating from New England Tech. In July 2019, Sarah became a Certified Veterinary Technician. Sarah shares her contagious smile and positive energy in everything she does. Her future goals include completing her bachelors degree and teaching future Veterinary Technicians. In her free time, Sarah enjoys hiking, traveling and spending time with her dog, Rosie, and cats, Sissy and Princess.

Christine has been a Certified Veterinary Technician since 2005 and in the Veterinary field for 25 years. Outside of work, Christine’s a weightlifter and triathlete. She lives with her husband and three felines.

Ashley

Technician, PennHip Certified

Ashley has been a technician at Oaklawn Animal Hospital since 2006. She began her career as a technician in 2003 and has never looked back. Ashley shares her home in Cranston with three dogs Mexi, Mila and Mango and a cat Bing. Her hobbies include going out with her friends, shopping and spending time with her family.

Courtney

Technician, Fear Free Certified, PennHip Certified

Courtney, a Fear Free Certified technician, started with Oaklawn Animal Hospital in early 2013 as an assistant. In January 2016 she was promoted to Technician. Courtney works closely with Dr. Mahaney to provide canine rehabilitation treatment and services. With her positive attitude and work ethic we are pleased to have her on our team. She is drawn to misunderstood animals and highly believes in behavioral training. She lives with her rescued dog, Leroy.

Gianna

Certified Veterinary Technician

Gianna joined our team in Summer 2021. She graduated from New England Institute of Technology in 2013, with an Associate’s Degree in Veterinary Technology. Gianna started her career in the veterinary world as an assistant, working her way up to becoming a Certified Veterinary Technician. With 9 years of experience working in emergency and critical care, Gianna is always prepared for anything. She has gained plenty of experience as a Veterinary Technician over the last 9 years and is dedicated, kind, and hard-working. Gianna looks forward to getting to know our clients and their pets on a more family-oriented and personal level. Gianna enjoys spending her spare time with her dog Charlotte.

Fran

Technician, Certified Veterinary Technician, Fear Free Certified

Fran is a Certified Veterinary Technician who has been at OAH since 2006. Her calm demeanor and ability to quiet even the most upset cats has earned her the nickname of “Cat Whisperer”. She has worked as a technician for many years before joining our OAH family, and has an associates degree in Veterinary Technology from Newbury Junior College. She and her husband Tom share their home with many animals. Fran also spends time writing and is interested in photography.

Kristina

Technician

Kristina has been part of our team since 2004. She started as an intern while she was in the ninth grade at the Metropolitan Regional Career and Technical Center in Providence, RI. The internship turned into a part-time summer job then a full time career as an Assistant. In 2008 she graduated from a CNA class at Berkshire Place in Providence, but realized that animals are her true passion. In 2014 she was promoted to Technician who has proved her eagerness to keep learning. Kristina has a black and white cat named Hydrox and two dogs: Buddy and Pixie. In her free time Kristina enjoys spending time with her daughter, Rosalie and her family.

Jose joined the team at Oaklawn and Cranston Animal Hospital in June 2018. Jose has over 2 decade’s worth of experience as a veterinary technician. When he’s not tending to patients or pet sitting, Jose enjoys outdoor hobbies and spending time with his son, Jaiden and their pack of dogs at home.

Jaclyn joined our team in December 2020. She graduated from New England Tech in May 2014 completing the Veterinary Technology Program. She began her career as a kennel assistant at NKAH, was eventually promoted to Veterinary Technician in 2012, and she is Fear Free Certified now! She has loved the career ever since and feels it is her purpose to help her patients and educate her clients. Jackie lives with her two cats Frankie and Pumpkin. Her hobbies include going out with friends, hiking, and spending time with family. She likes to bring a positive atmosphere to her staff, clients, and pets!

Karla

Karla, who in April 2016 became our newest certified veterinary tech assistant. She dreams of one day becoming a veterinary technician. She has a very friendly manner loves to make people smile and laugh. She has one dog named Bianca who is 12 years old. She loves spending time with family and friends. Her hobbies include dancing and eating!

Kayla is an assistant with Oaklawn Animal Hospital since December 2015. She loves working with animals and a very quiet manner which the animals are drawn to. She enjoys spending time with her son Avery, cooking and reading. Kayla has a Bearded Dragon named Gallagher and a Holland Lop Bunny named Forest Jump.

Jordan joined the Oaklawn team in August 2017. Although, she dreams of one day becoming a technician, as a new mom, Jordan spends her free time with her beautiful daughter. She also lives with her two cats, Lilly and Jax and her rescue pup Halani.

Jessica joined our Oaklawn and Cranston Animal Hospital family in June 2020. Jessica is looking forward to learning more about Fear Free methods in working with our patients. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her son, Zayden and Chihuahua, Princess. Jessica also enjoys hiking, discovering new places and trying new foods.

Cassidy joined Oaklawn Animal Hospital in January 2021 as kennel assistant. She currently attends the University of Rhode Island with a major in animal science on the pre-veterinary track. She dreams of one day becoming a veterinarian. In her free time, Cassidy enjoys painting, knitting, writing, and spending time with her family. She lives with her guinea pig, Finnegan/Finny.
